Do It, Even If They Say It's Stupid

There are so many things that I have done in life which I might have second thoughts about. So many.

Perhaps I should not have done it. Perhaps there were other ways to handle it. Perhaps I should have listened to my premonitions and not be reckless. Perhaps.

All the regrets would add up to nothing but a pile of 'what if's'. Of course not very thing that i have done have been worth while. Sometimes a little objectivity and rationale should have been in place to stop me from making really really stupid mistakes. Mistakes like not having a plan B when failure would take away a sizable chunk of the gains made.

One of the biggest stupidity I did was to quit a comfortable engineering job seeking an unknown career. It took the next 10 years or so to give me the clarity through various jobs. But still, the journey was worth it. Having said that the other stupidity, in professional capacity, was to get emotionally attached to the job and not quitting when I should have. This cost me far more than anything. I do believe I wasted 5 years of my career in roles I overstayed on. That was so stupid of me.

It's not just in my profession, but also in life, relationships, actions and many more. I have stories that have stuck with me. Stories of making decisions and not making ones that cost me money, time, opportunities and relationships.

Biggest regret was not in taking a decision. The biggest ones were when I didn't take any decision and just let it pass. All because of my fears of failure or being afraid.

Or perhaps ... of the unknown. Baka!

Hatch pet has created a Tamagotchi like app for the iPhone users. Those who are aware of Tamacotchi will already know what this app does. And those who love it will really really love it since the graphics are good and the pets are adorable. Its yet to launch but you can register and book your pet on their website.

So what does this app do? Simple, you adopt this cute virtual pet and care for it. It will interact with you, talk to you, wake up with you and go to sleep with you and do a lot more.

Dark humor well executed in this animated short film. It was directed at Supinfocom Arles in 2011 by Paulin Cointot. The dead calm at the end is poignant. Kudos for this brilliant visual art.

Headbanging Firestarter

There are some videos out there which baffle you so much that you are not sure how to react to it. They border entertainment and outright absurdity. Here is one that I found which I would like to share. These guys are metal heads enjoying swimming in a lake and some camp fire after that (I suppose). Nothing different aye? Have a look.


I laughed so hard and yet, I was not sure what I had just experienced. People are crazy! (In a good way) 

Finally! Ubuntu arrives on mobile handsets

I am quite excited about Canonical introducing the Ubuntu OS for mobile. Ubuntu, a Linux variant, has been powering servers around the world and has been known to enterprises, developers and institutions for years. The fact that they made it available for free to individuals and institutions alike, for so many years, is commendable. Whats interesting about the opensource community is that its a community of passionate folks who have help build and improve the OS over the years one iteration at a time.

When they announced the launch of Mobile Ubuntu, it was a turning point in the history of Ubuntu which has been lagging behind most ecosystems due to the unavailability of an environment to get it portable.

So why should this OS be exciting, you might ask. Here are some of the reasons, in my opinion.

Finding the best deals online, in India

We seek sale like flies. Don't we?

I have been looking around for good deals lately for purchasing a DSLR. Frankly, Indian e-Commerce industry has a lot more to do before it can be safely considered as the best place for deals. Even then, the prices are quite competitive when you are hunting for specific goods, say electronic.

I wanted a site or some source that would let me know the best places to get the elusive deal for the product I wanted to buy. I came across three alternatives. Google.com, Junglee.com and pricedealsindia.com. Interestingly enough, we still do not have a comprehensive site that would offer all kinds of products with their available pricing for purchase online. The industry is far from attaining any kind of maturity at this stage. Hopefully, things would improve. Anyways, back to my DSLR hunt.

Sending hours on the internet, one might take the browser for granted, or perhaps not. Well, I took it for granted since I had a choice among the best out there - Chrome, Firefox, Opera, IE (I would be play safe and mention version 9 here). Safety was always a 'be cautious' approach for me since non of the browsers truly are safe. As long as you drift around the Internet in safe waters, you will be alright.

I must say, for all the hype and hoopla about following celebs and famous people. I really am disappointed and kind of averse to doing the same. The reason being that there I will end up follwing a group of self obsessed nascisistics people tweeting about the mundane and the insignificant.

I am not saying that all of them are narcissistic or boring. In fact, if you hunt around a little bit, you will find some really interesting people around. His holiness the Dalai Lama is one such soul. But recently there was one personality that really caught my fascination. I saw the tweet profile of Leonard Nimoy and read his tweets and became a instant fan. Some of his tweets are , how should I put it, brilliant!

Love one of his recent tweets which said "My folks came to US as immigrants, aliens, and became citizens. I was born in Boston, a citizen, went to Hollywood and became an alien"

What does it mean ...

Found something funny and interesting when I read one of my friends tweet. Some one was searching for the term 'what does it mean ...' on google and as he was typing, he noticed that the search suggest gave him some really funny and weird options.

So, I too tried the same and here is what I found.

Don't know what to make of it frankly. From Poop to guy queries ... there seem to be no correlation or continuum. But never the less, search suggestion seem to change with time for sure. Find out your own interesting google suggestions that baffles you and share it with me if you can. Its mundane but interesting coming to think of it. If search algorithms are intelligent, they sure seem to be learning a lot from us and what we seek.

Finally decided to take a plunge into blogger.com and start my blog. Must say, I do like blogger.com as of now. Hope to keep that feeling alive. Cant say that for Scott Griepentrog as he seems to have been really pissed off by Google.

I happened to check out the 'Sites' tool by Google and it mentions what its users have to say about sites. Scotts comments are the first to be showcased. Went on to click the URL (www.StG.Net) to get a rather funny and amusing sight.

Scott is very unhappy with Google and has put his domain on sale for $60,000. It seems that google has shut down his adsense account. And to add insult to his injuries, he was not paid $200 which he had earned from Adsense. Now I do not know what exactly happened but looks like google made another enemy (as worded by Scott).
